As of press time on Jan. 27, there were no applications for the seat in District 3.

Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District Election

The Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District (CFBISD) has two Board of Trustee positions on the election ballot.

In preparation for the upcoming election, the district hosted an information session on Monday, Jan. 22, at the CFBISD Administration Building in which board members discussed the roles of a school board member, operating procedures, voting rules, and qualifications and voter eligibility for people interested in filing for election. CFBISD is home to 24,386 students and the district occupies 38 campuses over 53.42 miles, spread throughout six cities in Dallas and Denton counties.

School Board President Cassandra Hatfield said the goal of the board is to “inform the community” as the election gets closer.

Board members are elected using cumulative voting. In this process, all voters residing within the school district cast as many votes as there are seats open on the ballot. An individual voter may cast all of their votes for one individual or divide their votes among the candidates.

Candidates receiving the most votes will be elected to the board. The CFBISD School Board has seven members, each serving a three-year term. The terms of elected trustees are staggered, creating an annual cycle of open seats.

As of press time on Jan. 27, only one applicant, Hatfield, has applied to appear on May’s election ballot.

Residents interested in submitting an application for a place on the ballot should contact Kim Castanon, Administrative Assistant, at castanonk@cfbisd.edu. Filing packets must be submitted by 5 p.m., Feb. 16, 2024.
