The Manske Library has launched a new Braille-Enhanced Bilingual StoryWalk® along Rawhide Trail, creating an outdoor reading experience designed to be accessible to visitors of all ages and abilities.

Located across the creek from the library, the StoryWalk features 20 signs placed along the trail, allowing families to follow a children's story one page at a time while enjoying the outdoors. Each sign includes text in English and Spanish, along with Braille overlays that enable visually impaired readers to experience the story independently.

The featured story for the summer is Señorita Mariposa by Ben Gundersheimer.

StoryWalks® combine literacy, physical activity and family engagement by transforming books into self-guided outdoor experiences. The concept was originally developed by Anne Ferguson of Vermont in partnership with the Vermont Bicycle & Pedestrian Coalition and the Kellogg-Hubbard Library.

The Farmers Branch project was created to support accessibility and inclusion while encouraging reading and outdoor exploration. Braille overlays were provided by Envision Dallas, and installation was completed by the City of Farmers Branch Parks and Recreation Department. The program also received partial funding through a grant from the Texas State Library and Archives Commission.

The StoryWalk is free, self-guided and open year-round, with new featured stories planned throughout the year.
