Motorists and park visitors in Addison should prepare for temporary access restrictions in November as the town moves forward with construction projects along Midway Road and at Celestial Park.
Midway Road will be fully closed between Belt Line Road and Lindbergh Drive beginning at 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, through 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 9, while crews install a pedestrian bridge span across the roadway.
The closure will allow construction crews to complete a major portion of the pedestrian bridge installation. Drivers traveling through the area are encouraged to plan alternate routes and allow additional travel time.
Following the full closure, additional lane restrictions will affect southbound Midway Road at Wheeler Bridge from Nov. 9-13 as crews install bridge decking.
Two southbound lanes will be closed daily from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. during this phase of construction. The closures will alternate between the two right lanes and the two left lanes as work progresses.
The town has advised motorists to remain aware of changing traffic patterns throughout the construction period.
In a separate project, Addison will temporarily close the southeast entrance to Celestial Park beginning the week of Nov. 9 to make improvements to pedestrian safety and accessibility.
Construction is expected to continue through March 2027, weather permitting.
The project will replace the park's existing steep, erosion-prone entrance path with natural stone stairs and landings. Plans also include a new ramp compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act and a limestone retaining wall designed to reduce erosion during heavy rainfall.
Additional improvements will include upgraded lighting along the lawn walking path, relocation of an existing drinking fountain and new landscaping.
The improvements are intended to provide safer and more accessible entry into the park while maintaining its natural surroundings.
Although the southeast entrance will be closed during construction, the remainder of Celestial Park will remain open. Visitors can continue accessing the park through its northeast entrance.
The town plans to provide construction updates every two weeks at on their website.
Residents can also receive updates directly on their phones by texting Celestial to 888-777.
Both projects are scheduled to begin in early November, with the Midway Road restrictions expected to conclude Nov. 13 and the Celestial Park entrance improvements continuing into spring 2027.
