Emergency preparedness workshop leads Carrollton event line up

Learn how to be prepared when disaster strikes. Officers and staff from the Carrollton Police Department, Carrollton Fire Rescue, and the Office of Emergency Management will discuss topics that cover the natural and technological hazards that affect Carrollton and how to prepare for them. They will explain the best methods for receiving vital warning information and what to do during a disaster. Participants will learn how to assemble an emergency preparedness supply kit and create a family emergency plan. Workshop will be held on Wednesday, March 18, from 6-8 p.m. at the Municipal Court Community Room (2001 E. Jackson Road). For more information or to register, visit cityofcarrollton.com/calendar. 

Thursday Night Dance – March 19

Want to transform an ordinary Thursday into something extraordinary? Join the Carrollton Senior Center (1720 Keller Springs Road) for Thursday Night Dance. This event takes place every Thursday evening from 7-9:15 p.m. A variety of entertainers are featured each week, and refreshments are provided. Participants must be 50 years old or older and possess a valid Senior Center membership or day pass or must be accompanied by someone who has a membership or day pass to attend. Spring Community Clean Out Day – March 21

Responsibly dispose of bulk waste, such as broken furniture, household appliances, bicycles, rugs, mattresses, televisions, and small amounts of construction materials from do-it-yourself projects, as well as brush and yard waste, at Carrollton's free citywide cleanout event on Saturday, March 21, from 8 a.m.-noon. Drop off will be at the parking lot on Rainwater Lane, across from the Carrollton Police Department. 

Bring a valid ID and a water bill for proof of residency. Event staff can refuse any material not suitable for disposal at this event, such as freon-containing items (refrigerators and A/C units), household hazardous waste, and battery-operated electronics (cell phones, controllers, laptops, cameras, etc.). City Council Meeting – March 24

All are invited to attend the next Carrollton City Council meeting on Tuesday, March 24. The worksession will begin at 5:45 p.m., followed by the regular meeting at 7 p.m. in the Council Chamber located on the second floor of City Hall (1945 E. Jackson Road). Meetings typically occur on the first and third Tuesday of each month, with minutes becoming available after the Council adopts them, usually at subsequent meetings. Carrollton Citizen Police Academy

Get an in-depth look into the Carrollton Police Department by signing up for the upcoming Citizen Police Academy. This is a free 11-week program on Thursday evenings from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and provides residents with an inside look at specialized units such as SWAT, K9, Crime Scene, Investigations, Patrol, and many more. Esports Spring Showcase – March 28

Carrollton Esports is excited to announce the third annual Spring Showcase at Rosemeade Recreation Center (1330 E Rosemeade Pwky) on Saturday, March 28, at 9 a.m. This event is for players and teams of all levels, including high school, college, amateur, and professional, to celebrate gaming in North Texas. CPR/AED Training – March 28

Sudden cardiac arrest is a survivable event, but usually only with bystander intervention before Emergency Medical Services arrive. Join Carrollton Fire Rescue on Saturday, March 28, from 9-10:30 a.m. at the Carrollton Fire Administration building (1111 W. Belt Line Road #100) to receive free CPR and AED use training. This class primarily focuses on compression-only cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs), while also covering choking, and child & infant CPR.

This course is not for those needing a nationally accredited course completion card, such as the American Heart Association or American Red Cross. For more information, visit cityofcarrollton.com/cpr or call 972-466-9811.

Special Needs Spring Bash – March 28

Children and adults with special needs, along with their families, friends, and caregivers, are invited to enjoy a fun-filled afternoon at the Special Needs Bash on Saturday, March 28, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Crosby Recreation Center (1610 E. Crosby Road). The Bash will feature a free lunch for all attendees. A sensory-friendly break area will be available throughout the event. Citizens at Last: The Woman Suffrage Movement in Texas – March 1-31

In honor of Women’s History Month, the Carrollton Public Library is hosting a freestanding exhibition at the Josey Ranch Lake Library beginning March 1 through March 31, during regular Library hours. The exhibition will feature archival photographs, newspaper clippings, cartoons, and text detailing the struggle for women in Texas. Citizens at Last: The Woman Suffrage Movement in Texas is presented by Humanities Texas, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
