New townhomes, Belt Line pedestrian improvements move forward in Addison

Posted

Addison City Council approved a new townhome development, discussed pedestrian safety improvements and received an update on construction near the White Rock Creek Trail during its Aug. 25 meeting.

The council approved two items supporting construction of 29 for-sale townhomes at 4850 Airport Parkway, near Quorum Drive. The 1.57-acre property is currently vacant.

The council approved rezoning the property to allow the development and an economic development agreement with Cobalt Homes. The project represents an estimated $14.7 million in private investment.

Town officials estimate the development will increase the property's taxable value from approximately $770,000 to $17.4 million.

The council also continued discussions on Addison's proposed fiscal year 2027 budget, including projects designed to make it easier and safer to get around town on foot.

Public Works and Engineering Director Becky Diviney reviewed pedestrian projects that have been completed, are underway or are being considered.

One proposal would make improvements at Belt Line Road and the Dallas North Tollway, beginning on the south side of the intersection.

The town has a larger vision for improving the crossing, but additional work would require coordination with the city of Dallas and the North Texas Tollway Authority. In the meantime, Addison staff proposed improvements that could be made independently, including planter boxes and pedestrian-scale lighting intended to make the crossing more visible.

Council members also discussed possible improvements at Midway Road and Beltway Drive to make crossing Midway safer and more visible.

The town also announced that trail users can also expect construction activity near the north entrance to White Rock Creek Trail for approximately 30 days.

Atmos Energy is rerouting a gas line near Belt Line and Winnwood roads. Crews will bore underneath Belt Line Road near the trail entrance as part of the project.

The trail is expected to remain open throughout construction, but users should watch for crews and construction equipment and use caution while traveling through the area.
