A new glass mosaic featuring native North Texas flowers and pollinators is now on display along the Les Lacs pond in Addison, the latest addition to the town's public art collection.

The Addison Arbor Foundation and the Town of Addison unveiled "Addison in Bloom," a three-panel work created by artists Rachel Rodi and Itzayana Elkins. Each panel measures approximately 8 feet wide by 31 inches high and is inlaid on a wall facing the pond behind Beltway Drive.

The mosaic moves through the seasons from left to right. The first panel opens in spring with tulips, bluebonnets, Indian paintbrush and a prairie celestial. The Town's Parks and Recreation Department plants tulips in the area each year. A bee completes the scene. The center panel shifts to midsummer, where poppies, cone flowers and prairie verbena surround a swallowtail butterfly perched on a swamp mallow. The final panel captures late summer, with a ruby-throated hummingbird in flight above salvia, yucca, Texas sage and black-eyed Susan.

"Addison in Bloom highlights the natural beauty of the flowers and pollinators that we see in Addison and North Texas," said AAF President Dr. Jay Ihrig. "The vibrant colors create a beautiful backdrop to our area."

The artwork completes a broader renovation of the Les Lacs pond area, which included updates to the surrounding landscape and walking path.

"This artwork was the finishing touch," said Janna Tidwell, Addison's Director of Parks and Recreation. "Addison in Bloom beautifully showcases the Town's continuing commitment to public art, park spaces and sustainable environments."

The Addison Arbor Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit focused on enhancing landscaping, public art and parks programming throughout the town. For more information, visit addisonarbor.org.
