This week’s Sips and Scoops event was a great reminder of how much our community values clear communication and thoughtful conversations about the future of Addison. We had record attendance, with nearly 50 residents joining us to ask questions, share ideas, and engage in meaningful discussion about important Town topics. We look forward to growing Sips and Scoops as an opportunity to engage in conversation with the community. We will try different times and locations to help ensure all residents have an opportunity to participate. If you have ideas on how we can make these events even more successful, please let us know.
As Addison continues to evolve, this new Monthly Message from the Manager is designed to provide updates on key initiatives, share additional context around community conversations, and encourage ongoing dialogue with residents, businesses, and visitors.
This month, I wanted to share an update on the Addison Orbit pilot program and what comes next.
Addison Orbit is the Town’s on-demand microtransit pilot program that complements DART’s service while helping improve mobility within Addison. Providing microtransit and first-mile/last-mile transportation solutions has been a goal of the Town for several years, and this pilot program represents an important step toward achieving that goal. Whether you’re making a first-mile/last-mile connection to DART or simply looking for an easy way to get around town, the Town remains committed to finding the best transportation solutions to improve accessibility and mobility for residents, visitors, and businesses throughout Addison.
The pilot program is giving the Town an opportunity to gather real-world data about how microtransit can best serve residents, visitors, and workers in Addison. Rider feedback and trip data will help inform future discussions with DART about long-term microtransit options, including DART’s GoLink service and potential circulator concepts designed to complement existing DART service.
City Council will review the Orbit pilot program during its May 26 work session, including what has worked, what needs improvement, rider feedback, and operational data gathered during the pilot. The discussion will also include an overview of DART’s GoLink service and proposed circulator concepts. The only decision before the Council on May 26 is whether to continue the pilot program or end the current contract. No permanent decisions or long-term commitments will be made at that meeting. In addition, Council will discuss how to gain feedback and awareness regarding public transit and all DART services moving forward.
Preparation for these discussions is being done in close coordination with DART, with the shared goal of identifying transportation solutions that complement regional transit service while improving mobility options within Addison. The Town is committed to working collaboratively with DART to identify the best transportation solutions for Addison while helping develop a regional transit system that best serves the entire region.
Whether you are heading to dinner on Belt Line on Saturday night or catching the Silver Line to DFW for a weekend trip, I encourage residents, businesses, and visitors to try the service and share feedback during the pilot period. Your experience and input will help shape future discussions and mobility options in Addison.
Download the Addison Orbit app or call 469-214-0940 to get started. Riders can also share feedback through the Orbit app or by emailing marketing@addisontx.gov.
Thank you to our residents, businesses, and community partners for your engagement and partnership in helping keep Addison a thriving and exceptional community.
