Educational Foundation awards more than $90,000 in scholarships

Sixty-two high school seniors received more than $90,000 in scholarships from the Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District (CFBISD) Educational Foundation this spring.

The foundation administers scholarships from a variety of civic organizations, businesses and individuals using the CFBISD online scholarship application, which filters each applicant’s eligibility for the various scholarships. All scholarships required applications and letters of recommendation, and school counselors helped students with test scores and class ranks.

The deadline for this year’s scholarships was March 22. The Educational Foundation determined the final selections for the scholarships, which included recommendations by some of the scholarship donors and their committees.

“Simply said, this initiative would not be possible without the generosity and benevolence of others,” said Donna Wald, executive director of the CFBISD Educational Foundation. “It’s so moving for our donors to meet their scholarship recipients. There are so many happy tears and cheers.”

Recipients were sent an award letter of congratulations and instructions to claim their scholarships.

A non-profit organization established in 1997, the CFBISD Educational Foundation supports the district through campus and classroom grants, strategic mission funding, scholarships, perks for district employees and the CFB Giving House, which provides food, clothing and basic hygiene supplies for students in need.
