North Dallas Votes board president Bonnie Moore helped students register to vote and find out who is on their ballot for the March 3 primary on Thursday, Jan. 22, at the Dallas College Brookhaven Campus Student Service Center.
The last day to register to vote or make an address change before the primary election is Monday, Feb. 2.
Texas conducts open primaries, which means voters do not register by party, but must choose one political party’s ballot when voting in the primary. Once a voter selects a party’s ballot, he or she may only participate in that same party’s primary for any potential run-off, according to the Dallas County Election Department.
Early voting will be Feb. 17-27.
This year, Dallas County residents may vote at any polling place in the county for the primary’s early voting, but Election Day voting will be precinct-based, requiring voters to vote at their assigned precinct’s polling place.
There will be 17 statewide offices, including 1 U.S. Senator and all U.S. Representatives and 16 Texas Senators and all 150 Texas Representatives, and 10 countywide and local offices on the primary ballot.
In addition, Texas municipal elections will be held May 2, with early voting held April 20-28.
Farmers Branch will have two positions up for election: Mayor and City Council District 2. Addison has three at-large positions up for election. Carrollton will have four positions on the ballot: Mayor and City Council Places 2, 4 and 6.
