A Dallas transit advocacy group is calling for more transparency as the Dallas Area Rapid Transit Board moves toward selecting Nathaniel Ford as the agency's next president and CEO.
The Dallas Area Transit Alliance released a statement Monday summarizing concerns raised during its July meeting. While the group's executive board endorsed another finalist, Dee Leggett, members said they want any CEO selected by the board to succeed.
Among the group's priorities are protecting bus, rail and paratransit service, increasing ridership and securing additional state and federal funding. Members also questioned the hiring process surrounding Ford's return to the finalist pool, saying the board should provide more clarity about its decision-making.
The alliance also urged Ford to address questions about his leadership record at previous transit agencies and explain how he would balance emerging technologies such as microtransit and autonomous vehicles with maintaining core transit services.
DATA described the selection process as the beginning of an ongoing dialogue and invited Ford and DART board members to attend future meetings to hear rider feedback directly.
The Dallas Area Transit Alliance is an independent, rider-led advocacy organization and is not affiliated with DART.
