Semiconductor business arrives in Farmers Branch

Posted

A top global supplier for the semiconductor industry found a new home in Farmers Branch.

FormFactor Inc., with the City of Farmers Branch, announced Nov. 12 that it began site work and equipment installation for its new advanced manufacturing facility at 4350 Innovation Dr., the former location for Dallas Semiconductor.

Based in Livermore, Calif., FormFactor provides test and measurement technologies and announced the site, which includes four structures and 50,000 square feet of clean room space, was purchased for $55 million in June.

The city was in competition with five other cities including a location in Germany, Mayor Terry Lynne said.

The economic effect of the company’s presence in Farmers Branch is expected to be immediate and transformative, creating hundreds of new, highly skilled jobs, said the City of Farmers Branch in a statement. The company’s website already lists several positions open in Farmers Branch as well as remote positions in Texas.

“FormFactor’s selection of Farmers Branch for its next U.S. advanced manufacturing facility represents the most significant economic development in our city’s recent history,” the statement said.

FormFactor has shipped billions of micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) probes and has more than 10,000 probe systems installed globally. According to the joint statement with the city, the company has an aggressive qualification and ramp plan for the Farmers Branch site, which includes over $140 million of capital investment in 2026, and is committed to becoming an active employer in the city.

“This announcement validates Farmers Branch as a high-tech destination and secures the city’s place in the rapidly expanding semiconductor ecosystem. The influx of high-value employment will strengthen our economic base, boost ancillary businesses and dramatically enhance our role in advanced semiconductor manufacturing,” Lynne said.

“As the world’s leading supplier of advanced probe cards, which are used by global manufacturers of logic and memory chips at the heart of the AI revolution and data centers, we play a critical role in the global semiconductor industry. We are delighted to see the city’s support of both our and our industry’s growth,” said Mike Slessor, CEO of FormFactor.

In June, Slessor said the purchase of the facility would enable FormFactor to acquire a “scarce, fit-for-purpose asset that aligns with our strategic roadmap and provides significant operational flexibility.” He described the facility as located in a “lower-operating cost region” that had a clean room and was equipped with the infrastructure to meet the company’s manufacturing needs.

FormFactor’s growth trajectory mirrors broader industry trends. In fiscal year 2024, the company reported revenue of $764 million, up 15.2 percent from the prior year, driven in part by strong adoption of its HBM probe cards, according to the company’s fourth quarter results announcement in February. On Sept. 27, the company announced third quarter revenue of $202.7 million, an increase of 3.5% compared to the second quarter of fiscal year 2025 and a 2.5% decrease from the third quarter of fiscal 2024.
