The Farmers Branch Animal Adoption Center has cats, dogs and other animals available for adoption. The standard adoption fees cover sterilization, vaccines, microchipping, flea treatment, a heartworm test for dogs older than six months, the first dose of heartworm prevention for dogs and a viral test if the cat is old enough. Dogs who are heartworm positive are treated by the shelter after adoption
All animals are neutered or spayed and vaccinated for rabies if they're old enough before going home with a new owner. If your new pet is younger than 12 weeks old at the time of adoption you will need to submit proof of rabies vaccine when they are old enough.
If you already have dogs in your home, it is strongly recommended that you do a supervised "meet and greet" with your dogs and the shelter dog of your choice. Meet and greets are performed by appointment to ensure have the appropriate staff is available.
Their website is up to date in real-time, so if an animal's photo is showing, it is still here. They operate on a first-come, first-served basis, so you may want to call on your way if you're interested in a particular cat. They cannot hold animals.
