Metrocrest Services is making a final push Wednesday to reach its goal of collecting 50,000 rolls of toilet paper for neighbors in need.

The nonprofit’s annual Let’s Roll Toilet Paper Drive wraps up Aug. 26, which is National Toilet Paper Day. As of Aug. 19, donors had contributed 26,424 rolls, putting the campaign just over halfway to its goal.

While toilet paper may not be the most exciting item on a grocery list, Metrocrest Services says it is an important household necessity that can put additional pressure on already-tight family budgets. The organization reports the average price of toilet paper has increased 23% during the past five years.

Financial donations can also stretch further because Metrocrest Services purchases toilet paper in bulk. According to the organization, a $50 donation provides about 100 rolls of toilet paper for families using its pantry.

Donations made through the Let’s Roll campaign help Metrocrest Services keep the essential item available for neighbors who come to the organization for groceries and other household necessities.

The campaign ends Wednesday, Aug. 26.
