For nearly six decades, generations of Farmers Branch students have walked the halls of Farmers Branch Elementary. On May 15, many returned one last time.
Families, former students, teachers, staff members and community supporters gathered for "A Walk Through Our Story," a farewell event celebrating the campus before it closes and is demolished as part of Carrollton-Farmers Branch Independent School District's 2023 bond program. Guests spent the evening revisiting classrooms and hallways, sharing memories, viewing memorabilia and connecting with friends old and new. Food, activities and commemorative merchandise were available throughout the event.
The school, located at 13521 Tom Field Road, first opened in 1967 and has served generations of Farmers Branch families. The existing building will be replaced with a new elementary campus designed to improve safety, modernize learning spaces and better meet the needs of today's students. Construction is expected to begin this summer.
Beginning with the 2026-27 school year, Farmers Branch Elementary students and staff will temporarily relocate to the former Central Elementary campus, which has been designated Farmers Branch Elementary North, while construction takes place. The district expects the new campus to open in either the spring of the 2027-28 school year or fall 2028.
While many attendees described the evening as bittersweet, the event focused as much on the future as the past. Alumni and current families reflected on decades of memories while celebrating the next chapter for one of Farmers Branch's most historic schools.
