Here's a look at what's happening over the next few weeks.
CPR/AED Training – July 16
Sudden cardiac arrest is a survivable event, but usually only with bystander intervention before Emergency Medical Services arrive. Join Carrollton Fire Rescue on Thursday, July 16 from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Carrollton Fire Administration building (1111 W. Belt Line Road #100) to receive free CPR and AED use training. This class primarily focuses on compression-only cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs), while also covering choking, and child & infant CPR.
This course is not for those needing a nationally accredited course completion card, such as the American Heart Association or American Red Cross. For more information, call 972-466-9811.
Thursday Night Day – July 16
Want to transform an ordinary Thursday into something extraordinary? Join the Carrollton Senior Center (1720 Keller Springs Road) for Thursday Night Dance. Held every Thursday evening from 7-9:15 p.m., the event features a variety of entertainers and complimentary refreshments. Participants must be 50 years old or older and possess a valid Senior Center membership or day pass, or be accompanied by someone who does. Carrollton Fire Entrance Exam – July 18
Become part of the Carrollton Fire Rescue (CFR) team. Registration for the City of Carrollton firefighter exam is now open. The exam will be administered on Saturday, July 18 at 9 a.m. The department provides extensive training, state-of-the-art equipment designed to protect and serve the community, and substantial compensation beginning around $79,000. Community Plant Swap – July 18
Attention all plant lovers. Visit the Hebron and Josey Library (4220 N. Josey Road) for a free, fun, come-and-go Community Plant Swap on Saturday, July 18, from 1-3 p.m. Designed for local gardeners and plant enthusiasts to share their passion for greenery. Bring healthy cuttings, small plants, or rooted houseplants to swap for something new. It’s an excellent opportunity to meet fellow enthusiasts, exchange gardening advice, and pick up a new plant to brighten a space at home.
Swim-In Cinema – July 18
Bring your friends, family, and floats to Rosemeade Rainforest Aquatic Complex (1334 E. Rosemeade Parkway) on Saturday, July 18, from 7-10:30 p.m. for the annual Swim-In Cinema. Open swim will be available from 7 p.m. until dusk, followed by a screening of the animated film Zootopia 2 (2025), PG, at sunset. Tickets are $5 for residents and $9 for non-residents. Residents must present a valid ID for resident rates, and children ages 3 and under get in free.
City Council Meeting – July 21
All are invited to attend the next Carrollton City Council meeting on Tuesday, July 21. The worksession will begin at 5:45 p.m., followed by the regular meeting at 7 p.m. in the Council Chamber located on the second floor of City Hall (1945 E. Jackson Road). Meetings typically occur on the first and third Tuesday of each month, with minutes becoming available after the Council adopts them, usually at subsequent meetings.

Community Emergency Preparedness Workshop – July 27
Learn how to be prepared if disaster strikes by attending the Emergency Preparedness Workshop, Monday, July 27, from 6-8 p.m. at the Carrollton Police Department (2025 E. Jackson Road) Training Room. This free workshop is hosted by the North Texas Council of Governance in partnership with the Carrollton Office of Emergency Management. From creating family plans and emergency kits to understanding local weather hazards and community resources, this workshop is beneficial for everyone.
Wildlife in Carrollton – July 30
All residents are invited to discover the fascinating worlds of urban wildlife at the upcoming Wildlife in Carrollton Workshop on Thursday, July 30, from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Hebron & Josey Library (4220 N. Josey Lane). Learn how to peacefully coexist with local wildlife, from foxes to possums, at this free Neighborhood Networking Workshop.
Police Entrance Exam – August 1
Registration for the City of Carrollton Police Department entrance exam is now open. The exam will be held on Saturday, August 1. Earn a substantial compensation starting around $79,000. Summer Reading Challenge through August 1
Enjoy a summer full of new adventures with the Carrollton Public Library’s Summer Reading Challenge, running through Saturday, August 1. Readers of all ages can stay cool with a good book while earning rewards along the way. Registration is now open. The program offers age-appropriate activities for children and adults, and participants can easily log their reading minutes via the Beanstack app.
Parents of children under five years of age are encouraged to register them in the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program. The Summer Reading Challenge is sponsored by the Friends of the Carrollton Public Library.
Everyday People: The Art of James E. Ransome Exhibit
The Josey Ranch Lake Library will host Everyday People: The Art of James E. Ransome through Saturday, August 1. This free, all-ages exhibit showcases the acclaimed illustrator’s oil, acrylic, and watercolor paintings celebrating everyday life and joyful moments. Ransome, known for illustrating more than 75 books, has received multiple honors, including the Coretta Scott King Award for Illustration. The exhibit is organized by the National Center for Children’s Illustrated Literature in Abilene, Texas.
