Council discusses future of police headquarters, DART

Posted

At its Feb. 3 work session, the Town of Addison's City Council discussed a recommendation from the Bond Advisory Committee related to the town’s aging Police and Courts facility.

In addition to overall cost, Council reviewed key considerations, including potential locations and the inclusion of a gun range, as well as other factors raised during the committee’s evaluation process.

The Bond Advisory Committee, which was formed in October and included 14 Addison residents appointed by council, met multiple times and toured police and courts facilities across North Texas. On Jan. 13, the committee recommended that council call a bond election in May 2026 for a capital project to either remodel an existing building or construct a new Addison Police facility, in an amount not to exceed $55 million.

Council will consider whether to take action on calling a May 2026 bond election at the February 10 City Council Meeting.

Letter to DART

The Council also discussed the town’s goals and expectations related to the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) System at its Feb. 3 work session. Council provided direction in a formal letter, which was delivered to DART on Thursday, Feb. 5.

The letter outlines priorities focused on strengthening accountability and ensuring measurable value for Addison residents. Key areas include funding and service levels, governance and representation, alignment with the General Mobility Program agreement, and expectations related to safety and cleanliness across the system.
