The community showed up to support veterans, military, their families and the community at the fifth annual chili cookoff on Saturday, Sept 13.
American Legion Post 597 hosted the chili cookoff as well as a silent auction at 1024 Elm St. in Carrollton. This event provided a variety of chili and even a raffle where the winners won various prizes. Entry and tasting fees raised money to support the Legion's work with a portion going toward the Thanksgiving Soup Kitchen.
The judges for the cookoff included local businessmen and elected officials Alex Sagcal, Stephen Ross, Jay Wallace, Luis Palomo and Carrollton Mayor Steve Babick.
John Laemlein won first place. Ellen Appleby won second place as well as People’s Choice, and Ray Reynolds (middle) won third.
