Metrocrest community members watched machine operators demonstrate their skills and learned about how the Farmers Branch and Carrollton public works departments help maintain their cities at the Heavy Equipment Roadeo and Touch-A-Truck event in the Tommy Standridge Stadium parking lot on Wednesday, May 25, 2026.
Public works employees from both cities competed to see which of them could get the fastest time precisely stacking tires and traffic cones on pallets or sliding a five-gallon Lowe’s bucket across a narrow wooden rail as families watched. Families and children also examined construction machines up close, clambered into the cabs and honked the horns.
Other public works employees ran carnival-style games, told community members about their jobs and equipment and passed out public works merchandise and information as well as snacks and soft drinks.
