Carrollton fills October calendar with pumpkins, music, Halloween events

Posted

Carrollton has a full slate of community events planned for October, including fall festivals, live music, recreation programs, public safety classes and Halloween activities.

Perry Pumpkin Patch

The annual Perry Pumpkin Patch returns Saturday, Oct. 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the A.W. Perry Homestead Museum, 1509 N. Perry Road.

The free fall event will include face painting, children’s crafts, a petting zoo, vendors and photo opportunities throughout the museum grounds and Pearl Perry Gravley Park. Fall decorations and handmade crafts will help give the historic property a turn-of-the-20th-century feel.

Vendor and sponsorship opportunities are still available, although booth space is limited.

Quarterly Artist Talk

Local artists will discuss their work, creative processes and inspirations during the Quarterly Artist Talk from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 3, at Rosemeade Recreation Center.

The event gives visitors an opportunity to meet artists whose work is displayed in Carrollton recreation center galleries and learn more about the stories behind their pieces.

Artists interested in displaying their work may contact Lindsay Cole at Lindsay.cole@cityofcarrollton.com.

Youth basketball registration

Registration is open for Carrollton’s Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA youth basketball leagues.

The program includes a coed Mini League for ages 5-6 and separate boys and girls leagues for ages 7-15. Early-bird registration ends Oct. 5. Standard registration continues through Oct. 12 and costs an additional $20.

Carrollton Parks & Recreation is also seeking volunteer coaches for several age groups.

CPR/AED training

Carrollton Fire Rescue will offer two free CPR and automated external defibrillator training sessions in October at the Carrollton Fire Administration building, 1111 W. Belt Line Road, Suite 100.

Classes will be held from 5:30-7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, and 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15. Training focuses primarily on compression-only CPR and AED use and also covers choking and child and infant CPR.

The classes do not provide nationally accredited course completion cards such as those offered by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross. For information, call 972-466-9811.
