A Candidate Forum is set to help Farmers Branch District 1 voters learn more about each candidate.
The forum will be 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 9 at the Children’s Health StarCenter, 12700 North Stemmons Fwy.
Both candidates for City Council District 1 – Lupe Gonzalez and Lilia Martinez – confirmed with the Branch Herald that they would attend.
All residents and business owners of Farmers Branch are encouraged to attend to learn more about the candidates and the issues facing the city, but only residents of District 1 can vote for the candidates in the Nov. 4 election. This is a Constitutional Amendment Special and Joint Election with propositions for 17 constitutional amendments that all Texas voters can vote on. They will appear above the local Farmers Branch District 1 race on the ballot.
A candidate forum is a live, public meeting where two or more candidates for an office present their views in short, individual speeches. Each candidate will receive the same questions and have up to 90 seconds to answer. Each will be given a few minutes to introduce themselves, and both have received the first question that will be asked: Why are you running for City Council?
The Branch Herald is currently taking questions from the community to ask the candidates. Questions can be sent to the Branch Herald at news@branchherald.com.
Audience members also receive notecards to write additional questions. The Branch Herald team will collect, sort for appropriateness and combine like questions before they are asked of the candidates.
Branch Herald Publisher Kate Bergeron will moderate.
The Branch Herald does not support or oppose any political candidate. Forums held by the Branch Herald are intended to ensure that all participating candidates are treated fairly and equally. When candidates are listed, the Branch Herald follows the list they will appear on the ballot, as drawn randomly with the city secretary.
