The Branch Herald, your local source of community news, is looking for an energetic and creative Social Media Intern to help tell the community’s stories online. The position is open to enthusiastic high school and college students with a knack for content creation, visual design and digital trends. An interest in journalism is a plus but not required.
The ideal candidate will be proficient in Canva and comfortable navigating popular platforms like Instagram, TikTok and Facebook. Interns will design visually compelling graphics and short videos, assist with scheduling and publishing content and help monitor emerging trends — from viral sounds and formats to fresh challenges. “We’re looking for someone who not only understands social media, but who gets excited about finding new ways to connect with our readers,” said Branch Herald Publisher Kate Bergeron.
In addition to creating and sharing posts, the Social Media Intern will analyze algorithm patterns and audience behavior to fine-tune the organization’s digital presence. Other responsibilities include engaging with online followers, maintaining a consistent brand voice and brainstorming creative campaigns for upcoming stories and events. Interns will also track performance metrics to improve strategy over time.
“This is not a coffee-fetching internship,” Bergeron said. “It’s hands-on, with real opportunities to contribute and see your work reach thousands of local residents. You’ll leave with published work in your portfolio, professional references and skills that translate to any career in media or marketing.”
The Herald is also seeking volunteers to help with editorial and administrative tasks — from proofreading and newsletter production to event coordination and office organization. Community members who want to keep local journalism strong can commit just a few hours a week or more.
