Annual chili cook off to raise funds for American Legion

The American Legion 597, located in Historic Downtown Carrollton, invites the public to attend its 5th Annual Chili Cook Off on Sept. 13, 2025, at 4 p.m. The event will include a flag ceremony, chili tasting and silent auction. VIPs will include Jay Wallis, WFAA reporter. Register as a cook or taster today.

This event is the Legion 597 family’s largest fundraiser of the year. The event raised over $5,000 last. Year, with a goal of $6,000+ for this year. The funds will allow the members to continue their mission to support Veterans, Military, their families, and the community. American Legion 597 has donated over 15,000 volunteer hours and more than $20,000 to various Veteran and Community programs and projects, including, but not limited to, Boys and Girls State, National Veterans Arts Festival, Sweats for Vets, Christmas for Kids, Operation Purple Camp, Cancer Research Dallas, Life Homeless Shelter, and Birdwell Foundation for PTSD.

A percentage of the proceeds from this event will be donated to the Carrollton Thanksgiving Soup Kitchen.

The American Legion Post 597 was chartered March 15, 1947, and was designated as the very first “Purple Heart” post in the U.S. on March 12, 2018. The Legion 597 family includes members of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 597, Sons of the American Legion Squadron 597, and American Legion Riders Chapter 597. The Post prides itself on being a safe place for Veterans, their families, and the community to gather.

The event is open to individuals regardless of age, gender, race or religion.
