KidsWorks auditions

Posted

Efforts have started to prepare for the annual KidsWorks Festival put on in July.

Farmers Branch theater directors Amy Cave and Joanna Chabot will mentor four or five student directors for the festival’s performances.

Auditions are 1-5 p.m. Saturday, June 14, at Amy’s Studio of Performing Arts on Midway Road.

Shows that youth can audition for include “Charlotte’s Web,” directed by Hazel and “Encyclopedia Brown,” directed by Lucas. The musical performance of “Tuck Everlasting” will be directed by Emily while Eliza directs “Beauty and the Beast.”

There will be opportunities for actors of all ages and skills. Any school-age child over five years old that is ready to try out his or her acting skills is welcome. Principal roles are the main characters that will be on stage the most and have the most lines or music to memorize. Supporting roles don’t appear on stage as often but may have a scene on their own and move the story forward. There are also ensemble parts where groups of actors will perform together. They have fewer lines and do things as a group when acting, singing or dancing.

If you are unable to make the audition day, you may send a video as your audition. Message Chabot or Cave for more questions.

After auditions on June 14, directors will notify actors and get scripts to them to start perusing in early July. Actors need to start learning their lines before rehearsals begin because there is limited time.

Cast will meet at the end of July for nine days of rehearsal, which will be two hours each day. Rehearsals will be July 21-25 and July 28-31.

Performances will be Friday, Aug. 1, and Sat., Aug. 2.

Cost to participate is $25, which helps with rental space, props and set design.

All auditions, rehearsals and performances will be at Amy’s Studio of Performing Arts.
